Project Background

Legacy System Overhaul at Investors Group

At Investors Group, I spearheaded the redesign of our legacy system, focusing on optimizing the user interface and enhancing the information architecture. This initiative led to a 50% reduction in user errors and a 40% boost in user productivity. By adhering to User Centered Design (UCD) methodologies, I championed an approach that prioritized users' needs, streamlining their interactions and experiences with our digital platforms.

My Role & Responsibilities

Leading UI/Interaction Design

  • Devised and executed responsive interface layouts, assets, and presentations while following standard UCD methodologies.
  • Developed UI deliverables, including screen layouts, micro-interaction designs, and multi-screen view states, with a focus on pixel-perfect details and salesforce specifications.
  • Collaborated extensively with user experience, front-end development teams, business lines, external agencies, and vendors in a structured Lean UX and Agile environment.
  • Maintained high-fidelity prototypes using tools like Sketch & Invision ensuring consistent, up-to-date design representations for stakeholder presentations.
Process

Design Thinking Process

  • Empathize

    Gathered firsthand insights from users through direct observations, interviews, and surveys. This step aimed to understand users' needs, motivations, and pain points.

  • Define

    After gathering insights, analyzed the information to clearly define the main challenges and user needs. This phase ensured a targeted approach in the subsequent steps.

  • Ideate

    Brainstormed various creative solutions to the defined problems. Encouraged out-of-the-box thinking and collaborative problem-solving to generate a plethora of innovative ideas.

  • Prototype

    Transformed the most promising ideas into tangible prototypes. These were low-fidelity representations of the final product, designed to visualize solutions and test their feasibility.

  • Test

    Evaluated the prototypes with real users, gathering feedback, and learning about possible improvements. This iterative process refined the solutions and ensured they met user needs effectively.

User Persona Development

During my tenure at Investors Group, I was deeply involved in persona development to ensure optimal user experience design. I crafted multiple personas, like Sandeep – a tech-savvy Millennial who values intuitive financial platforms for her sporadic interactions. These personas helped guide and refine the user interface and interaction strategies, ensuring that we catered to the unique needs and goals of our diverse user base.
